Fuel and storage

Home standby natural gas generators that are connected to the municipal natural gas network don't require any fuel storage at all, they get their fuel from the natural gas line which typically work even during power outages.

Additionally, most natural gas generators for residential use can also run on propane and come equipped with propane tank connectors. Propane does not spoil in storage like gasoline or diesel, it can be stored indefinitely. Some composite propane tanks can experience some leakage, but good quality stainless steel tanks are very well sealed and do not leak at all.

But be aware that some states and counties have regulations on how much propane an individual can store at any given time. To store larger amounts, you may be have to request a permit. So be sure to check your local regulations.
